    Buying Extended Warranty After Purchase

    I was wondering if anyone has bought an extended warranty after they purchased a Dell laptop (specifically an Inspiron 1520) and how this process works (and pricing). Thanks

    Click "Extend & Upgrade Warranty"
    Enter your service tag

    expired warranty cannot be extended, so may want to hurry.

    After I enter my service tag it says I have entered an incorrect e-value code (which doesnt have anything to do with warranty term extensions). Anyone know why this is happening?

    I was able to buy an additional 2 year warranty on my desktop after it had expired just call and talk with a csr

    You were lucky then. I tried to add warranty on my old laptop before I sold it, and spoke to 3 different reps, and was refused.

    Dell's policy, as I understand it, is this...

    If the machine is less than 30 days old you can extend the warranty at the prices they would do it on a new machine for...

    If the machine is more than 30 days old AND still under warranty you can extend the warranty for a higher price.

    I was offered quotes for 3 year extensions to my i1520's warranty before I sold it... And that was at the end of an existing 3 year warranty!

    If the website isn't working you can always do it over the phone with them...

    Usually.. from what I've read... Just before it expires, Dell contacts you and tries to get you to extend you're warranty.

    i wanted to extend my warranty and add complete care after it was shipped.

    Several reps told me i had to return the laptop and buy another one to get complete care, but after being persistent i found a rep who was able to sell the coverage with out a return.

    Moral of the story, dell reps don't always know what the hell they are doing.

    Keep trying.

    I am within my 30 days and I have called twice and both times been told I had to return and buy a new system to get the same price on warranty as when buying a system new...
