If it is, what about warranty?

Yes, it is possible. I believe the warranty will be cover once it is exported from the US. You will have to talk to Dell about getting a warranty. I know alot of people that will come from Canada and buy a Dell and take it back, but the warranty is not good once you cross the border.

You will have to pay the tax on the value of the notebook when it comes through customs (7% GST and whatever your PST is... in Ontario ours is 8%).

Also, the laptop clearing customs may take as long as 3-4 weeks!

You don't need to do that. That only happens if you take your laptop inside the box with receipt and all. When you go to the States, open the box, throw it, take your laptop in your bag or wherever you intended to carry it out with and when in customs, say it's for personal use. There is no way they can tell you just bought the laptop and passing it through customs unless you tell them so. Personal items don't pay taxes, but remember you can only carry one.

The topic was "Buy from Dell USA, ship to Canada"... SHIP would imply to me (and I believe I am correct) that they wanted to order from DELL USA and have the laptop delivered to Canada... not go to the USA, buy the laptop and bring it back with them.

Futher, it is within the rights of Canada Customs to demand proof of purchase of any product (over a certain price) when entering the country - especially electronics - and you are advised to always make sure you have the appropriate paperwork with you when taking such items out of the country. I have been asked for such paperwork for a laptop, digital camera, mp3 player and PSP when entering the country via Air in Vancouver and Toronto and crossing the border at Buffalo.

True! That paper is called: Identification of articles for temporary exportation!!!
They never asked me to see it on the border, but you never know!!!

Oops! My bad, you are indeed correct. No need to use a tone or sarcasm though. And well, I have never gone to Canada, but I have traveled around when I was college and never once was I requested such document (doesn't mean I'm calling you a liar, I was just very lucky then). Good to know.

Order from Canada Dell site is better.

    1. Shipping will be more expensive
    2. Tax

Dell warranty is international coverage, this part you don't have to worry.
