I want to buy a Laptop for less than 1300-1400$. Right now I'm think about a XPS M1530 with a T7250, 2GB DDR2 and WXGA+ LCD. The penryn will come out probably soon and I think Montevina platform will be release in June... Should I buy the M1530 right now or wait this summer ?? Do you think laptop with Penryn CPU will be very expensive ?? And what about the next platform ??

What would you do if you were me ?
    THX

    Might as well ask here:

Since I won't be buying my new notebook until May/June anyway, I may just as well wait for this?

Call me crazy, but if you're waiting until then, you may as well wait.

Santa Rosa is the platform, they are all Merom processors and so is the T7250 it just has 2MB Cache instead of 4MB.

Penryns are new processors on the Santa Rosa platform, while Montevina is a new platform that will initially feature new Penryn processors.

You'd hope that both implementations are being developed in tandem, not least when from the latest market research the notebook platform is selling better than it ever has. It makes little sense to favour the desktop platform solely at launch.

With a bit of luck a nice mid-range notebook Geforce 9 GPU will accompany the refresh, giving furthur incentive to twiddle those thumbs for the next couple of monthes. :)

Ask yourself what advantage the new platform will give you in your computing habits and this alone will determine the most appropriate purchasing decision for your needs. You will inevitably be paying more for this new hardware, so ask yourself if it's going to be worth it.

There is no platform from Intel by the name of "Santo Rose".

I already got a M1530, and however overwhelming Penryn *might* be, I'm not getting a new laptop at least untill Calpella.

If you need it now, buy it. Or else you'll be waiting forever, and never getting anything.

I got my current notebook (in sig) just months before Santa Rosa. But, I needed it, so I didn't care. I will be purchasing a Montevina notebook, as this rig isn't ideal for in class note taking.
