Buy 9200 now with 25% off - or after Xmas? Any thoughts? Anyone know how Dell historically prices after the holidays? The 25% off seems like a great deal... Isn't there a new 2.2 chip coming out with a higher FSB? Would the release of this chip cause a drop in the pricing on the 2.0s?

Well, you will predictably see a price drop on the processor upgrade when the next round of Pentium Ms are released sometime in Q1 of 2005, the prices will just step down to whatever the one below 2.0 costs now. But you'll be running on the eternal treadmill of waiting if you keep looking on the horizon for new technology and price drops on current...it'll always happen.

Dell will usually try and generate more volume at it's end of quarter financials, they had one four weeks ago so expect another one in 2.5 - 3 months (Feb.). Personally I think the 25% off coupon available now is a pretty good one. Not as good as the $750 off one that existed a few weeks back, but there's no telling when or if ever such a deal will come again.

$750! Ouch! If only I had the money then!

25% is nothing to sneeze at, though. Essentially for the 9200 I'm getting it comes to a $500 rebate.
