Buy 700m, or wait for something new and spanky?

    Hi there...two 700m questions:

    - About to purchase a 700m; however, with the battery life and sound issues floating around the web, I'm wondering whether I should hold on and wait for the next gen Intel chipset? (I know there's always something newer and greater around the corner...I'm certainly happy to jump on the bandwagon at some point). I'm just wondering whether now is the wrong time to buy a (possibly dated) machine? (This really isn't a "Does anyone know what's around the corner" thread...I'm really just looking for opinions.)

    - Second: I have a standard 1 gb PC 2700 DDR 333 Sodimm hanging about...will I be able to use this in the 700m?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Don't know about your first question, but as to the second, that is what Crucial recommends for the 700m, so I'd say yes.

Dell may come out with the Sonoma in the 700m. Next up for Intel is Yonah with dual cores. The Fujtsu s6231 is light like the 700m, but is way better built. It will probably be more expensive though.

if you can put off your purchase for a few months, I would wait and see what is going to be released in the fall. Dell is suppose to release a new line of desktops/laptops sometime in the second half of the year. Its really hard to tell what will be included, but it will be better than the Inspiron series (according to rumor)

I would take zazonz's advice and look at some of the fujitsu. Don't get me wrong, Dell is a good brand, but the quality and built of the Inspiron series is not the best out there.
