I wake up my notebook this morning, I leave the login screen on for around 50-60minutes, I come back and see this :

Right now, Im using my external monitor as my display and it works fine, so I assume nothing is wrong with the graphics card/drivers.

I even tried to completely powering down the notebook, took out the power plug and the battery. Didn't work.

Also tried the old fashion way, hit the screen a couple times.

The notebook is around 2 years and a couple months old.

Anyway I can fix this ?

If I turn the screen off for a hour or so from the NVidia display settings and turn it back on, I can actually see the entire screen BUT I can instantly tell that the brightness has down quite a bit and it goes back bust within 30 seconds.

Maybe it's the power inverter and not the screen that is fritzed?

Looks like the WSXGA+ is going to cost me around $120, which is not that bad. Would I need to replace the inverter too ?

How do I know if it's the inverter or the LCD which is busted ?

I didn't use the notebook screen for around 1-2 days and after that when I powered it up it worked fine ( no horizontal lines ) for about 3-4 hours, however it was still dim. After 3-4 hours it went back bust.

Is it most likely the inverter or the LCD that needs the replacement ?

There is a possibility that the notebook MIGHT have caught moisture ( when I took out the notebook from the bag, there was some moisture on it ), because I left the laptop bag on top of my air conditioner and I have been having problems ever since.

Unfortunately, there's no real certain way to distinguish between a failed inverter and display panel. If I were you, I would buy an inverter and replace that first, since it's the cheaper of the two things to replace. If it works, then great. If it doesn't, then at least you've narrowed it down, and you know you need a new panel.

Do inverters work with all resolution screens ?

All the inverters I see on Ebay say they are compatible with WXGA will they still work WSXGA+ screens ?

Inverters only regulate voltage. If it works for WXGA, it should theoretically work for WSXGA+.
