Hi, i am contemplating getting a E1705 Core Solo for my brother.

    A couple of qns...
    1. Can i upgrade to a dual core CPU down the road?
    2. The website mentions that the standard option is an Integrated IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950, and the optional one is the 7800 GO.

Assuming i get the 7800 GO, does that mean i can remove the 7800 and it will fall back to the integrated GPU (just like my PC)?

Hope someone can help me with this.. thanks!

    Ok, to answer your questions.
    1. You can upgrade to newer processors but that would void your warranty.
    2. The e1705 has two different motherboards. One with the 945pm(pci express) chipset and one with the 945gm(Intel graphics) chipset. You either get one or the other. You can't fall back because there won't be intel graphics to fall back onto.

plus upgrading the processor is difficult to do and probably expensive. If you are going to upgrade to the dual core, you might as well just get a dual core E1705.

hiya southern girl, thanks for the great reply!

well the issue is, i was originally gonna get a 9300 with wuxga, but they have phased out that option, and the next cheapest thing is a core solo....

so im kinda like in a dilemma..

Do u noe how a 1.66 ghz Core solo would ocmpare to a pentium M 2.13?

    Many thanks..

The 2.13 770 would still wipe the floor with the 1.66 T1300.

The T1300 has a faster bus, faster RAM, SSE3, but higher latency Cache. Same TDP.

If history repeats itself the T1300 probably won't be much faster than a Pentium M 730

While I disagree that swapping processors would really be difficult, I wholeheartedly agree that it wouldn't be worth getting a Core Solo and than upgrading down the road to a Core Duo.

Pay the cash now for the Duo if your at all planning on getting it.
