I've decided to purchase an inspiron 1520, but I was wondering if anyone feels its excessivly bulky and how would it come to say an inspiron b120.
-
its not thin but its not too big either... i like it.
-
Bulkier than some but sturdy is probably the best way to describe it.
-
doesn't seem bulky ... but if its bulky for you, then I would suggest a m1330.... but only if you have time to waste.
-
I always go with the biggest screen I can get. They are just as portable, provided you aren't a complete puss.
-
"omg..a 17" isn't even a NOTEBOOK!! it's so heavy" -
haha 1720 is 2lbs heavier than the 1520...the weight should not even be an issue
-
Even compared to the 1330..what's the weight difference like 4lbs or something? 75% of america carries more weight in their fat stomaches than that.
-
The most annoying thing is people like ZOMG I NEED T3H PORTABILITY FOR COLLEGEEE. If you seriously think you will be able to tell the difference between a 17 inch laptop and a 15 inch laptop in your backpack filled with huge ass textbooks among other things, you are sadly mistaken.
-
I would be more concerned about the books smashing against the laptop and causing white spots/dead pixels (like it did on my laptop). :-(
-
-
17" cost to much FYI >_>
-
-
yep, i got mines 1720 for $1560
-
The only reason I got a 1520 it because using the laptop on college desks would be impossible with a 17" monitor. The other reason is that in a 17" the battery life is generally horrible, this is different with the 1720, it is the only 17" I could find that was suitable for me with decent battery life without being outrageously expensive.
The bulkiness of the 1520 does not but me at all, as eight pounds instead of six is really negligible if you are carrying around a couple textbooks and notebooks and other stuff I would need -
And I'm already worried about the next time I have to fly since I'm moving from my M1210 to a 15.4" notebook . . . -
Its nice to be able to sit in a car at the park and work on a laptop. However 17" laptops and steering wheels don't mesh that well. If people can only have
one computer and they don't need to move around a 17" is way to go, otherwise a laptop should be easy to carry and use. Plus a $500 computer and a $500 NEC S-IPS monitor will blow away any expensive laptop away. I never really liked the term "desktop replacement" because there is a point of diminishing returns with laptops that the market seems intent on ignoring. -
17" is nice if you already know where you are going to use it. But if you move from Airplane to Airplane, train to train, class to class, or desk to desk, I'd think that 14.1 is probably your best bet with 15.4 being acceptable.
I carried a Frosh backback all though high school, I was never worried about the weight. I ordered a 1520, I was never worried about the bulk. I really got it as it was a nice size, will have a good battery life, is well equiped, and feels right to me. I find it absurd people feel so strongly about what screen size other people get. Screen size is rarly ever more than preferance. -
In other words, I want a laptop, not a desktop I can carry. I want something that plays games decently with a high resolution in a nice package. 17" laptops are just to big. Maybe not for you, but I'm not a huge person and it would stretch nearly across the entire width of my body... -
I got 15.4 just so it fits in my bag. My bag is designed for 15.4 inches. Also, if I am gaming at home I just use my 19 inch or my 32 inch lcd. I don't need a big screen at school or anywhere else.

1530 is indeed fairly bulky for 15.4inch laptop. With 6 Cell battery, it is...
358.7mm x 269mm x 37.3-45 mm
In comparison, Vaio Fz, which also has 15.4 screen is..
355.8 x 255.4 x 24.9 - 35.4 mm
The small 17inch, MBP 17 inch is...
392 x 265 x 25.9 mm
Pavillion 6500, which I think is a typical 15.4 inch....
357×257×41mm
Bulkiness of 1520
