How long is the build time for dell usualy? is the 20 days for my Inspiron 1520 that it gives me just an estimation or is it probably accurate?
Order tracking tells me that it will SHIP on 7/16 and arrive some time between 7/19 and 7/23. I need my notebook before the 21st so im realy hoping that thier just overestimating and then shiping 10 days early so it looks good.

Btw for those that are curious these are the specs:
    Inspiron 1520, Intel Core 2 Duo T5250, 1.5GHz, 667Mhz 2M L2 Cache
Midnight Blue Color with Microsatin Finish
    2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife LCD for Inspiron 1520
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    80G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    for a total of $1348.

Lead time is long because today is the first day that you can order them. Once they've been out for a few months, the lead time will shorten considerably. The M1330 expected shipping date is the end of July, even longer than the new Inspiron lineup.

I've never bought a Dell during release, so I can't really comment on how accurate their shipping times are. I'd call up a CSR, they might be able to give you better information.

Certainly could happen, I know my last Dell notebook shipped much faster than the lead time, but that was 1.5 years ago and for a model that had been out for a while.

i ordered my e1405 on the 10th -- and it's still in production. it's been a damn long time, but i got the same "20 day" production period that you got. it's a bit absurd, given dell's history of getting laptops out within a week. their turnaround time used to be so much better...

im realy hoping that this is just one of those auto systems where they stamp on a 20 day period and they make'em and ship'em as they come.

Dell originally projected my D630 to be shipped on July 18th, 2007. However, the status changed to shipped today. Dell gives a long date just in case something goes wrong. It is the best way to give dates because things Dell cannot control go wrong all of the time. I never understood why customers complain when people cannot predict the future. If I could predict the future and know the exact day your laptop will be built, I would quit my job and win the lottery.

Try to call 1-800-289-3355 to check order status. It tells you not just in production, but which stage in production. Mine is currently in boxing stage.

i would assume most (if not all) m1330's are in pre-production. Oh well...

    ... the wait continues!

i'm didn't go outright and say that for ALL m1330's cause some people in the UK/Canada/etc have much earlier shipping dates... so they might be actually in production... :-(

Same here, 'cept with a D830. I ordered on July 1st, had an estimated ship date of July 18th but ended up having it shipped today.

Although normally their estimate is an overshoot by up to a week, i wouldn't count on it for the new lines, they recieved a lot more orders than they expected and they have had to put lots of parts onto backorder lately. I would expect the worse. With that said by dialing that number you can pretty much estimate the date yourself :)

My 1520 has been in boxing stage for 3 days now. In theory, my computer is built, and is now being puting a package waiting for shipping. But the estimated shipping date is still Jully 31st. I dont understand whats taking those people so long to package stuff.

I wondered the same thing, but after seeing a couple of threads posted here, I believe the boxing phase consists of more than just putting the notebook in a box. It looks like during this phase, the notebooks are put on pallets, then transported by cargo planes to Nashville. In Nashville, they're put in boxes with the manual, power cords, etc, then picked up by the shipper who will deliver the notebook to your door. This is the point where your status will change to, "shipped", and you get your tracking number. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
