    I've heard that Dell has multiple stages of "in production"... build, testing, boxing... But my order just says in production online... How do you know?

    Give their automated order status number a call, 1-800-433-9014 and just punch in your order number.

    just cause your in build doesn't mean that you can't get changed back to pre production

    Preproduction = checking payment
    Build = payment cleared, waiting to be built (can take as long as it needs, they only take about 4-6 to fully build & test one)
    Testing = between building and boxing, when they test.
    Boxing = Stage when packed and transfered to carrier

    I believe the stages are something along those lines....

    When did they remove the order status (the part where it tells you WHICH stage of production you're at)? I bought a new desktop last November, and it was available then. Have they recently removed it due to all the backlog?

    I think they keep a record of all your orders on your customer number. The stuff that I've ordered and even canceled are still available.
