I have a new XPS M1710 notebook, I was playing online poker and got the bsod unfortuantly I didn't write down the error as I had to unplug the sytem and take out the battery before I could reboot, this is the first time that it has happened is there something I should do to prevent this from happening again. I haven't loaded anything unusual on the sytem so I am not sure what caused this. Thanks for any input.

in the future, all you have to do is hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds. you don't have to take out the battery, etc. etc.

re: bsod, it could be a billion different things. without more info, it's pretty much impossible to provide a solution

Thanks I will do that with the power button, I know that it could be almost anything next time I will write the message down. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm often get the dreaded BSOD also when playing party poker. i posted a few times asking about it and no one could figure it out. i haven't written down the message, but i get it about every time i play - never with anything else ever though. i'm just sort of resigned to the fact that the video driver or whatever is simply not compatible with party poker after playing for about an hour. Nothing else seems to be affected anymore and i just hold down the power button and quickly restart. Once, i had trouble even rebooting. I could only boot in safe mode and had to download the video driver from the dell site and then pray it worked on reboot - it did. that only happened once though.

PLEASE - if you find out anything about this, please give me the courtesy of emailing me what you found out - i'd so appreciate it.

This occasional BSOD is about the only trouble i've had at all with my E1505.

Where are you playing poker at? Is this a program you installed or online? If it is a program you installed then it sounds like a memory leak. Check task manager> processes. Look for the program and watch the memory. If it keeps on rising then it is a memory leak which is a problem with the program.

We need more details to help you.
