i bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 not too long ago. But recently i accidentally dropped my laptop off the couch and from the impact the screen is now broken. i have called the dell warranty service, but they wanted to charge me $350 for screen repair, and I'm in college right now so I'm pretty broke.

i heard it is very simple to replace the screen yourself, but how much would you think it would cost? and so if you could please tell me what i need to get and what i have to know to work on repairing my screen. Thanks

By the way, my screen is Liquid Crystal Display, 15.6HDF, Light Emitting Diode, True Life, V1, Au Optronics Corp and WLED back lit

It looks like the basic WXGA screen doesn't cost that much; I'm seeing around $70 on eBay. I don't know if there's a higher-res version, but I doubt it'd be that much more.

Dell has instructions on replacing the screen: Documentation; so it's like maybe $70 and the cost of your time.

On the Studio 155x you can change to full HD (1080p), at least on systems with the ATI HD 5470 controller (only ones I tried). You can read my write-up here. It should be useful for other Dell models, though the part numbers are probably different.
