I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and the screen was going on it so I bought a replacement screen off of eBay. It didn't come with an inverter so I used the existing one.

The new display works great, but now the brightness settings are reversed. Turning up the brightness in the BIOS makes the screen dimmer and vice-versa.

Other than setting everything backwards and training myself that FN-UP is dimmer and FN-DOWN is brighter is there any way to fix this?

Does the screen work otherwise? Does it reach the full brightness level?

Try double checking the plug that goes into the inverter. It usually fits in only one way, but maybe its backwards.

Yes everything works otherwise. You are correct the plug cable going from and to the inverter only fits one way.

The power plug going from the inverter to the backlight lamp looked like it might fit either way and I thought about trying to reverse it, but since it only has 2 wires (red and while) and it's supposed to carry AC current, I can't see it how accidentally reversing it could cause this problem. Also the laptop was already all sealed up and getting to the inverter would require removing the display again.

Would reversing the backlight plug really cause what I'm seeing?

I don't think so, especially since it only goes in one way. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't forced in the wrong way.
