My cousin has an Inspiron 6000 and the warranty just expired. He had to send ti into Dell for some fixin to which they extended his warranty since it was only 3 days past. But now he has it back and the sound is working fine (that was the nissue) but now the brightness on his screen is stuck (it's pretty dim) and doesn't change when he uses the FN + Up or down keys.

    Any idea

just update the BIOS from dell.com

hopefully that would change all the settings (not sure) and fix it?

There's only one FN key on Dell notebooks.

I would try a system restore or reinstall the keyboard drivers.

I mean trying using the other FN short cut keys like increasing/decreasing volume, or ejecting drive to see if it is functional.

if the fn key is busted, plug in an external keyboard and use scroll lock+up instead.
