So what brand of RAM does Dell overcharge us for?

And would it be worth it from their overcharging to buy one big stick of RAM and adding another ourselves later?

    buy what you can afford.

find out the cheapest combination and go with that.

Buy it elsewhere unless you like to pay more. There is nothing special about Dell's memory. Depending on the model, the second slot may be under the keyboard. If you feel uneasy about doing that, that would be the only reason to buy from Dell. Otherwise more profits for them is all.

just get the minimum, dell is a ripoff on RAM upgrades. for the i9300 they charge $125 to upgrade from 2X256 to 1GB...just get the one thats free and buy your own 1GB stick of better quality from newegg for 90$, take one of the 256's out and pop that in, now you have 1.25gb and you just saved yourself 35$

or you can buy 1gig stick, and then use a 256 stick in addition to it. Yes I know you aren't utilizing the dual feature.

Dual channel is over rated. The important thing is to get more memory.
