I just got my brother a laptop New Vostro 1500
    2.0Gh z Core Duo
    160GB 5400rpm Sata HD
    2Gb Ram
    Geforce 8600M GT
    Windows XP all from Dell
He has tried playing COD 4 and it lags like crazy, so we put in Guitar Hero 3 and it still lagged like crazy. I did some research and then installed the latest Driver of 169.09 from laptopvideotogo. I did forget to uninstall the old driver first and i just installed over it, but anyways after installing this driver Guitar Hero Runs much much better. BUT everyonce and awhile it will slow down and lag. Im really dissapointed, with these specs i expect GH3 to run flawlessly.... Any suggestions??

I hate to say this but I honestly think its XP. I went to XP from vista and couldnt even play CS:S. I used drivers from laptopvideo2go also. In Vista I get 60FPS everything maxed on CS:S, and in XP I got 15 with the same settings. I even turned all settings to low and only got 40.

Check the game settings for CoD4 and be sure to follow the tips in the gaming forum about the stuttering issue found in the 8600 series.

I hate to say this but I honestly don't think it's XP. I have XP on my Vostro and CS:S runs very smoothly at max settings..

It has nothing to do with dell, it is all the software being used. You need to uninstall the old driver and install the new one. if it installs the old automatically then don't reboot. You could also try slipstreaming the good drivers into your xp disc and format with a fresh install.

Im going to try installing without the reboot and see if that works. So to you guys who have it working please tell me which forceware version you are using there are a million to choose from lol. I will try again with 169.09 and also 169.28.
