First I want to say thank you to everyone here on the forums! I have learned so much already just from reading all of the different reviews, complaints.. praises, etc.

My question is, bottom line.. do I want the Dell Vostro 1500?(Edit: Should I consider a Vostro for my needs?) I just saw that there has been a new deal (or one I didn't see before) That expires on October 2nd. This is what my configuration would be.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows® XP Home
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display with TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    80G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel Web Camera
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Cost: 689$

I upgraded the battery to a 9 cell as opposed to a 6.

After reading all the complaints that people have had, I am sure I do not need a high res display. However, are people having more success with the matte screen, or true life screen? I like the idea of a glossy screen but can do without it if the picture on matte is better.

Over all, I will be using this mostly for school, web browsing.. and some light gaming. I am also aware that people have said it is heavy, and I'm a trooper. ;) Bottom line, what do you guys think? I want to make a well informed decision, and to me.. this seems like a reasonable deal and I can't afford much more.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Ditch the 2 gb ram for the cheapest one they offer and buy the ram from newegg! Dell tends to overprice their RAM. Other than that, looks good! I bought one with different specs and I love it!

Thank you for the input. As far as the ram.. I would, but the system as they are offering.. you aren't able to downgrade it. I'll price the system out as if building it from the bottom up and see what it comes out to.

Same system, built from the lowest model. Only 1 gig. Tried to price out the others, they all default with atleast 2 gigs of ram.
    Price: 858

Looks like a good deal, except for the 80G HD.
