So I have heard many people mention how you can boot into the Media Direct partition in order to save battery while listening to music/watching a movie. How do you do this exaclty? The only way I have used Media Direct is to open it up within Vista. How exactly do you boot straight up into the Media Direct partition.

Depends on which notebook you have. There is usually a dedicated MediaDirect button next to or close to your power button, that, when pressed with the computer off, will boot directly into MediaDirect. If you do not have this button, then I do not know how you would boot directly into MediaDirect, maybe there is some key combination?

I have an xps m1330 just like you. So instead of pressing the power button, I just have to press the media direct button when the system is powered off?

Correct. The MediaDirect button, when pressed when the system is off, acts as a power button that boots the Windows (XP) Embedded Operating System located on the otherwise hidden MediaDirect partition.

I tried it out last night and it worked. Looks like a neat way to save battery when listening to music, etc. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, but just as a note -- if you mess with the notebook's partitions AT ALL. Resizing or changing them around with a dual-boot system - it will more than likely mess up.

The only fix for it is formatting the hard drive and running the Media Direct install DVD before you install Windows XP/Vista/Linux whatever.
