    Dell forum,

I'm trying to fix my daughters Dell Inspiron 2200. It will not
boot up. When I push the power button sometimes it will start
to boot but doesn't finish. Once I got to an error message that
said the battery is dangerously low. Most times nothing happens
when I push the power button. Does the battery have to have
some life to boot this laptop?

I have checked the Cmos battery and the HD. Both seem to be
    alright.

How about booting it up without a battery installed?

And if the booting progress hands after the system logo shows up, then it's the system's problem or hard drive problem.. If it hangs during the very beginning, then it should be something wrong with hardware... :)

    Goophy69,
    Thanks for the reply.

I figured out that if I hold the power cord to one side where it plugs
into the jack it will boot. As soon as I let go of the power plug
it loses power. I'll re-solder the power jack and if that doesn't
fix it I'll buy a new one.
