I need a suggestion on what BT mouse I could buy from Dell. What's the best one, have anyone had any experience with them, so on :) Thanks!

If you don't need (or want) all the features of that Presenter Mouse, I HIGHLY recommend the Logitech V270 notebook travel mouse. They come in charcoal or silver, and the batteries seemingly last forever (just in case you forget to turn off the mouse).

I've used them on practically every model Dell that supports BT. (and have sold dozens of them with Dell notebooks).

Small size, but not too small. $30-40.

is it better to use a wireless optical mouse rather than bluetooth to save battery? if so, do you think it is worth it and how much energy will it save? i doubt it'll save an hour, probably 5-10 minutes of battery life.

Not sure - still on my first set of batteries.

I don't turn it off, but if you're particular about getting the longest possible battery life, there's also a switch within reach.

Excellent form factor, comes with a laser pointer, the touted Power Point controls, and the coolest part (to me) are the media controls (volume, play/pause and track advance).

There's a buttom on the top spine with a tactile click to toggle between mouse and presenter device, and just below the scroll wheel is the perfect ergonomic position for your index finger in presenter mode.

All in all, very satisfied. Another point is the "feet", which seem to glide better on hard surfaces than other mice I have tried.

    Regards,
    P

My question was not about laptop battery life, but the mouse battery life.

Not sure about the effect on laptop battery life between BT and an "ordinary" wireless mouse, but looks like some Googling is in order now that you got me curious.

The best Bluetooth mouse in my opinion is the one from the Dell Bluetooth set. It is the same mouse that comes with the XPS M2010, which means it has back/forward buttons, middle click, side scroll etc, making it fairly feature rich for a daily use mouse. It tracks perfectly, and has none of the characteristic lag that is noticeable on mice like the Logitech VX Revolution (which I also use but am annoyed to no end by it's input delay lag) It is a bit expensive as I don't think it's sold separately (you could buy it separately from Dell Spare Parts, but you will likely need to get a friend's XPS M2010 service tag.)

I have that set. The mouse is very uncomfortable if you have short fingers, as it's a very elongated mouse.

They come in Black, Gray, Charcoal, Silver, and Blue. The Black, Charcoal and Silver seem to be the most common, and a few places sell the Gray ones and the Blue ones:

    Blue: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0570155

    Gray: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...TC-Froogle-_-Mouse-_-Logitech+Inc.-_-26104205

I havent found anyplace other than Dell to get the Blue one, and they want $47 plus tax and shipping. Do you know of any place that can find a Blue v270 cheaper? The "blue" messes up my google searches, because of all the "Blue tooth" descriptions.

Yes, I understood you were asking about the mouse battery life. Also, some here are recommending full-size desktop mice (Like the Logitech VX series). Are you wanting a smaller travel mouse or a full-size desktop mouse?

The V270 mouse I recommended is a smaller, travel-size notebook mouse.

Well I use the Dell BT travel mouse.. Its really nice and feels just right. The Motorola S9 BT stereo headsets are good too. I highly recommend the Dell travel mouse.. forward back buttons.. scroll, left/right.. and precision control and great range. Still on my same set of batteries for a couple weeks.. Don't know long term battery life yet. Anyway some pics of the 1420 case S9's and travel mouse. http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9270&stc=1&d=1186979503

I might have to disagree with you on this one. I have never seen a BLUE or BLACK or GRAY V270 mouse, unless, of course, you mistake the Charcoal color for Blue, Black or Gray.

If you look at the links you supplied for those colors, they ALL reference the manufacturer part number 931566-0403. Guess what that part number is for--CHARCOAL.

So, I'm not sure where they are getting BLUE from, but the Charcoal could be mistaken for either black or gray. Even the Logitech site for the V270 lists only Charcoal and Silver.

I wish Logitech would introduce more BT mice...they have some neat mice for notebooks, but all are USB. They do have a cool looking NANO VX, where the USB receiver is so small, you can leave it in all the time...

Woa.. that is just like the larger version only shrunk down. I will have to get this mouse, it may be the only BT mouse in that size that actually has most of the essential functions.

Forget about the V270 if you intend to use it everyday, I would not stand for a mouse without forward and back buttons in this day and age.

I, too, am frustrated that Logitech has not updated their Bluetooth line in a few years. This mouse, although it is a great mouse, needs the scroll wheel that tilts left and right for your forward and back functions.

I wish they would update it (or come out with a new version).

But, if you don't use those functions, then the mouse is perfect.

Not sure about that part number.. can't see it listed on Dells site (WY896)
However, I have seen these BT headsets sold by dell:

    Dell BT headphones.JPG

I bought my Motorola S9 from Amazon and paid 82 dollars with free shipping. I don't think Dell sells these.

Hrm...well I guess these are what's included then, as they're the only Dell-branded headsets i've seen so far. Anybody reported on their experiences with it? (That means I have two headphones?! The earbuds and this headset?? Not that I'm complaining :p...)

Also, do you suffer from discomfort of the BT travel mouse? The full sized one had those complaints when I looked at the Dell website.

No discomfort at all. The Dell travel mouse is simply the best I have ever used. The item number and description for the Dell BT travel mouse:
430-2315 Dell Bluetooth Travel mouse. I configured this mouse when I built my 1420 system. Like allot of accessories at dell.. they only seem to be visible on the system build. I can't find a link to the accessories page for the travel mouse. But its not real long like the desktop BT one. This is a comfortable size.

If the Dell Travel mouse is anything like the Dell IR remote you will have to buy a refurbished one under a different part number since the IR was not available to those who already purchased and received their systems. So if you can't get a rep to sell you one with the 430-2315 number have them see if there are some available under the refurbished category. The funny thing was, that the Dell IR remote refurbished one cost much more then the new one that was included with the system build. I think that Dell's accessories are somewhat screwed up. And a word of warning to those looking to buy sytems.. Make very sure all the accessories you want are included in the configuration. Adding items later can result in canceling/reordering systems or paying more or not getting items at all.

But the one thing that the V270 lacks.. and this is HUGE.. no back and forward buttons. I have used mice for many years that always include back/forward buttons. This is extremely important for me and the Dell is probably one of the few.. if not the only one in this size that offers full 5 button navigation. If you are used to having forward/back navigation on your mouse.. stay away from the V270. I still highly recommend getting the Dell travel mouse.. I kid you not this is perfection in a notebook mouse.. It has no cons.. Its does it all.. precision control.. range, 5 button navigation and the ergonomics top notch. Its very rare that a device shows no compromises.

Call Dell Spare Parts, it may take a few minutes for them to find it (you might have to direct their attention to configuring a new inspiron/vostro), but they should be able to do sell it to you. The price is not guaranteed to be low though...

It is fixed. I had to send my system back since my replacement system (first one had a crack in the lid seam) had a AUO display instead of the SEC. The display was horrible.. My 21 days was almost up and dell did not seem too concerned about my crappy AUO display.. so I sent it all back including the dell travel mouse :( That was a very nice mouse and I will miss it. Probably get a HP 6500t now since they are offering free hard drive upgrade and very cheap upgrade to 2 gigs memory with a 20 percent coupon. So I will probably looking to buy another BT mouse.. I wonder if I can purchase the Dell travel mouse separately? If it works on a HP I would probably pay a premium to get this back!

How big is it? The Dell travel mouse was not full size but just large enough to be ergonomically comfortable. I can't imagine anything being better then the dell travel mouse.. it was a perfect accessory for any notebook.

I just read that the MS BT mouse does not have a off button.. but a power down saver instead.. but it takes a while to wake it up. The Dell one has a off button. I think I like that idea better. Users from Amazon don't like the idea of no ON/OFF switch on the MS one.

They have two colors displayed, and neither of them looks anything like black or blue or charcoal to me - but you are right, the "Gray" has the same part number as the blue, black, charcoal ones that I find.

But that picture is weird then, because it looks very very gray.

    compared to the "blue"

    and the "black"

I guess you are right. It is just lighting. Just Silver, and Charcoal

Im glad I didnt spend the extra $ to get "blue" from Dell!

I have the V270. It seems like a nice 2-button/fixed wheel mouse. It tracks well and it works on the few surfaces that my other Kensington optical mouse won't (like varnished light wood). I haven't had it long enough to tell what the battery life is like.

The range is great. I can use it instead of a remote control from accross the room when I have it connected to my 1080p 57" tv.

I didn't load the Logitech drivers because they reportedly conflict with the touchpad in some cases.

Thing is, in Vista, sometimes the Bluetooth icon appears in the tray at startup, and sometimes it doesn't. If it isn't in the tray, the mouse doesn't work. If I go to control panel and look at the bluetooth devices list, the mouse isn't there. If I set the V270 to broadcast/setup, go to control panel, and try to reinitalize it, Vista says it can't find anything broadcasting. And yes, this is with the Inspiron wireless/bluetooth hardware switch in the "on" position.

Probably not the mouse's fault, but still a drag.

I'm playing around with Logitech MX5000. So far, no problems with the keyboard but there's a slight hiccup with mouse every now and then, the mouse cursor goes haywire... Maybe I should install the drivers ;) :D
