I just received my M1210 this morning, and I love it.... EXCEPT for the bluetooth.

I mis-set a connection setting for the serial connection, so I deleted the serial setting, and also the com port setting I'd accidentally done before reading the "Help" file in ActiveSync. Since then, I've been unable to create another serial port or com port for use with my phone. I can see both ways, but my phone does not see a data transfer service available on the laptop, and the lappy doesn't see any data transfer capability on the phone.

I've installed the latest driver for the 355 bluetooth module from Dell's website, I've had tech support examine my software and configuration settings, I've rolled the driver back to the original, I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it from the CD. No joy.....

    Any ideas?

I've looked on a couple of the PDA/smartphone websites, but the posts there are so esoteric as to almost be in another language. Wasn't able to follow any of the advice there.

Have you checked the firewall? Which bluetooth stack are you using? To check go to start> control panel> system> hardware tab> device manager. Click on bluetooth and it should list toshiba or ms. Also try deleting the pairing and then repair. There is a place in the bluetooth properties to add a com port. Its been a while and I forgot how to get there. Did you try to re-install activesync? It might recreate the port. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I had to travel for work.

I've looked in the device manager, and neither the Bluetooth Bus Enumerator nor the Dell Wireless 355 Module with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Technology have anything in the Properties box that states either MS or Toshiba. The firewall settings and information don't show any blocking of a bluetooth connection that I can tell. When I try to create a serial port, it chimes, locks my machine for ~30 seconds, sounds a chime, and then releases the machine while doing nothing else. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync, and gone through the setup procedure according to its' Help section. Still no joy.

Apart from that, this little beast works GREAT!! I'm typing this message on it right now as I sit on my couch. I'm going to post a comparison with my Smartstep 250 soon. It's not as uneven a contest as you might think at first.

This COM port part is this in device manager where the phone is not coming up as a device? You shouldn't have to manually assign the COM port you want to use for the phone it should pick one automatically (though you can change it if you want)

The com port is in the Bluetooth control panel. I followed the instructions in ActiveSync, but messed up. I deleted the ports I'd created, and tried to re-create them. That's when this mess started.

So, it sounds like you are able to pair and connect but not transfer. The com port could be the issue. I do not have a bluetooth xp machine to walk you threw. But, it does sound like you are able to create a com port. That make me believe it is the firewall. Try this: start> run> type: msconfig> select selective start up and uncheck start up items. Then reboot and ignore the message on restart. Try pairing and transfering. If it works then it more than likely is your firewall. We disabled it in msconfig.

BTW, who is the carrier and model of the phone. Some carriers do not allow transfers. I think Verizon is one of them.

Actually, the problem is that I can no longer create the serial port. For some reason, when I try to create one, it just locks the machine for roughly 30 seconds, and then fails to create the port.

Okay i was playing around now that I understand what you are doing (sorry I am rather new to some most bluetooth stuff)

I added a com port to mine and here is what happens

When you click ADD COM port I get the sound like when you plug in a new USB device or something.

I had device manager open at the same time and under PORTS (COM and LPT) I saw both my original Bluetooth Communications port (COM4) and then it added Bluetooth Communications port (COM9) after it wanted me to name the port in the Bluetooth config I just hit cancel. the Bluetooth Communications port (COM9) disappears and I hear the device disconnect sound.

Does it currently show ANY Bluetooth Communications ports in Device Manager?
