I've searched and read the other threads on bluetooth driver issues recently, but they weren't the same issue I'm having.

I have a 1720. BlueTooth was working fine except that it would occasionally just drop my Kensington mouse. So I went to the Dell driver download page and downloaded the new driver. It told me to uninstall my old driver first, so I did.

But when I run the installer for R140135.exe, it gets halfway through and then gives me this error message:
"This installer be run on Windows Vista only"

I swear that's what it says, bad English and all. But I am running Vista!

So I did everything mentioned in the other threads, going into the Win32 folder and clicking on Inst icon, but it tells me to install the Setup file, which then gives me the "This installer be run on Windows Vista only" error again. I even ran that patch that I think was supposed to be for people that downgraded to XP, no help.

So I finally got out the drivers CD that came with the 1720 thinking I'd at least reinstall the original driver. But guess what, it gives me the same error message.

Anybody have a similar problem or a suggestion?

You need to extract the R140135.exe file first and then directly run the installation file.

I did that. I went to my computer, c, dell, drivers, R140135, 3100_216, setup and got that error

also tried going same route, but further down to the Win32 folder, then Inst and Setup, same error

Run Setup.exe as Administrator in the extracted Win32 folder!
