Bluetooth Information Exchanger

Hallo guys, Long time reader, first time threader(?)

let me first just say how much I appreciate all the help you guys give =].

Now down to business, I recently had my inspiron 6000 delivered and have no regrets the only thing that's concerned me is the bluetooth no longer seems to work(it did a few times) I can't make a new connection with the dell software, nor can I detect a device with the wireless file transfer program. when I open the remote camera program it tells me that it will "restart once the "Bluetooth Information Exchanger has started"

now, I may have fiddled with something I shouldn't have doing some sort of Run>config(?) work or disabled something that should run at startup, sorry now my question is What was it that I turned off? and would anyone be so kind as to tell me?

 

Two things, your BT radio might be turned off, or you might have the software disable.

First go to start-->programs-->bluetooth-->bluetooth settings. Then click on the Bluetooth menu-->options. In the middle, you should see a blue/black button. If it is blue, then your radio is on. If it is black, click on the button to enable it.

Since you mention being in MSconfig, you'll need to check there. Run-->msconfig-->startup tab--> look in the middle column, and "check" anything has bluetooth in it. On my system, it is labeled as a rundll32

two follow up questions, my 'Bluetooth settings' program doesn't have the option under bluetooth titled 'options', most of the options under bluetooth are faded anyway(unselectable)

also, checked msconfig, enabled something, but it hasn't seemed to have helped. I may also have altered a bluetooth setting either hardware or software realted? somewhere else, in one of the (forgive the description) "Stop this program running ever" run devices, and I can't remember which one it was, I found it on this site, in one of the "Use this guide to make your laptop run faster" threads, and I can't find the thread again =[

once again a newbie falls to the sword of "wanting a faster laptop" lol

k, lets try something else. To the right of the power button, you'll see several lights. Is the closest to the power button blue?

What software are you using? If you aren't sure, did you download it from dell?

 

Have you tried to reinstall the drivers? Go to dell.com and look for the drivers for bluetooth there. Those are newer drivers than the ones you get on your new system.

 

all the software is dell standard, removed a few things, and added a few things, but nothing that should have any bearing on the function of the Bluetooth information exchanger, had the puter shipped here about a week ago.

No the blue tooth light isn't on.

as Zicky suggested, I'm off to reinstall some drivers =]

ok......so I download the bluetooth drivers, launch them, they uninstall the bluetooth programs, I run it again, they install bluetooth programs, but get stuck at 63%, so I close them, and restart.

now the blue tooth light works, and it connects......weeeird.

It's good to know I was able to help. Those drivers make a world of difference when using bluetooth compared to the stock ones.

 

You probably had a different problem than mine, but sometimes when coming out of standby my BT mouse (Logitech V270) won't work. The BT light is on, and trying to reconnect with the BT Info Exchanger (that's the icon with the tower antenna looking thing, right?) it says BT isn't ready.

This happens on occasion, and it turns out the easiest way to fix it is to right-click the BT icon in the system tray. Disable BT, then reenable it. That fixes it everytime. Kind of annoying. But at least you can tell it's not connecting properly because the color of the BT icon (in the sys tray) is red instead of green.

Am I making any sense? And am I the only that this happens to? LOL

 

Nope, we have a user in the Networking/Wireless that is going thru the same thing. You might want to head over there and check it out.

The best thing I can tell you is to make sure that your drivers are updated and you do have your radio on, and driver enable. Even if the BT light is on, your radio might be off and driver might be disable (found that out the hard way)
