I'm having problems with my Bluetooth device. I bought the laptop (Inspiron 1720) back in August with the Bluetooth option installed so it's integrated in the system. The Bluetooth icon is shown in the task bar as well as the Bluetooth LED. The Bluetooth LED is lit so it's enabled.
I checked the bluetooth devices in the device tab and the bluetooth mouse is there. I clicked the connection tab and checked everything. I checked the Hardware Tab and Microsoft BT Enumerator and Bluetooth Truemobile + EDR thing is there. The mouse doesn't work! it worked before though. The mouse is a BT. It's fully charged. I restarted my computer. it's on the ON switch. I don't know what to do after this.
Another problem I'm facing is sometimes when I turn/wake the computer back on after leaving it in sleep mode or hibernation mode for a very long time, the bluetooth module disables itself. In the Hardware Tab, you should see Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator and Dell Truemobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR. Unfortunately causing the computer to sleep or hibernate causes these items to disappear so the BT connection is disabled. How do I re-enable them without having to restart my computer?

Wifi on/off button.
My M90 has short cut for it - FN key and wifi key, and M1330 has on/off switch. I'm pretty sure M1720 has one of them also. -
WIFI led is enabled also. It's a switch on the left side of the 1720 that enables/disables WIFI.

what kind of mouse do you have?
Try to remove the mouse from the BT devices, and add it again, see what happens.
If it's a logitech, try to search logitech's forum also.
BT mouse is great if it works flawlessly, but it's a nightmare if it starts to acting up like yours.
I had problem w/ MX1000 w/ E1705 (wasn't pairing up after reboot, didn't save my key settings etc), which was basically same model as my current M90, but after I paired the mouse w/ M90, I had no problem at all.
If it's a logitech, you may want to email logitech support, ask for tech support telephone number, and work w/ them. -
im having the same problem with my M1330 i think it might be a software issue cause if you remove and add device again it works
-
Ah it worked. I removed it and reinstalled it. Thanks.
Now the second question. Does anyone know why the Bluetooth module disables itself when you turn/wake the computer up? -
is it a logitech?
I'm using MX1000 on my M90, and Dell BT travel mouse for M1330. I've installed logitech setpoint on both systems, and it saves all my set keys which works flawlessly in games. -

tagging along. having same problem here.

I would remove the mouse from the BT device first, reboot, install logitech 4.0
from the link (4.0 is the one that works for me, so I'm suggesting it), reboot, add the mouse.

If things were done right, you should be able to see the mouse on BT devices, and setpoint (you should see a mouse tab, and a picture of the mouse, and you should be able to remap keys etc).
Let me know what happens!

Thanks -

or you can just google it. -
I have the same mouse and the same problem with my Vostro 1500; I also had the same problem with my Inspiron E1700. It most especially happens after awakening from sleep or hibernation. I have tried the setpoint solution, and it doesn't work. I really don't think it's the fault of the mouse, nor even of the bluetooth card or driver. I'm really starting to think it's just one of those bluetooth "wrinkles" that hasn't been ironed out yet. I've never had a problem at all with any of the numerous infrared mice I've used.

The problem lies how you installed the mouse with logitech.
The system initially detects the mouse as BT mouse, then after sleep or reboot, it thinks it's USB mouse, and doesn't detect the mouse anymore.
As I mentioned, this is very painful to correct once it went wrong.
You just have to uninstall, and reinstall etc until it works properly. That's why I suggested you contact logitech.
Start from Fresh install of Setpoint from logitech forum.
P.S. Make sure to disable UAC before the installation-This was what Logitech was blaming last time I called.
You can disable it by typying misconfig on your start menu, goto tools tab, disable UAC, launch it, then reboot. -
This thread has become a bit hard to follow. At least for me.
Achilles- Just to clarify, are you saying to install the Logitech Setpoint 4.0 from your link even if I am using the Dell Blue Tooth Travel Mouse? Dont know if that's originally a Logitech mouse or some other company. -
Remove the mouse from BT devices, make sure you have UAC disabled, install setpoint, reboot, install the mouse. See what happens.
The travel mouse is from Logitech. You will see exact mouse on setpoint once you install everything right.
You may also want to give uninstalling widcom stuff-this is what I posted in other forums, just take the steps you need.
Uninstalll the setpoint you have, don't reboot, and uninstall Widcom crap that came with Dell drivers, dont reboot, go to start and type in msconfig in search. You should now be at system configuration panel, now, go to tools, click on "disable UAC" and click launch. Reboot, install Setpoint 4.0 - Right click it, and run as admin! -Add your devices -
Sorry . What is UAC?
-
I re-installed the setpoint software that came with the mouse, and then removed and added the mouse (in control panel: bluetooth devices). Now i can see the mouse when i open setpoint and modify buttons, and the laptop is picking the mouse up more reliably so far. Hopefully this lasts.

it didnt last same problem is recurring
-
Ive followed the instrustions listed. Now wondering if i can turn on UAC after finishing the installation process. -

I had this same problem every couple of days with a dell media keyboard/mouse combination & vista (m1330), the problem was not with the mouse or BT devices, it was with the BT stack and Vista. I think most of these problems are coming from Vista. Solution was simple, changing my hardware settings for the Dell Trumobile radio, under power management, uncheck the box next to "Allow computer to turn this device off to save power". I have been going for 3 weeks without having this issue again. Hope this helps.

Just kidding, UAC actually stands for User Account Control.
User Account Control (UAC) is a feature in Windows that can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. UAC does this by asking you for permission or an administrator password before performing actions that could potentially affect your computer's operation or that change settings that affect other users. When you see a UAC message, read it carefully, and then make sure the name of the action or program that's about to start is one that you intended to start.
By verifying these actions before they start, UAC can help prevent malicious software (malware) and spyware from installing or making changes to your computer without permission.

There is discussion on this in Dell forum -

Interested in the Power management settings bit. This sounds logical. In XP can't find any similar settings to try. In BIOS - there is option to "awake" with USB devices that is turned off by default. (Which I have now turned on.) But interested if there are any other settings to test. Not sure how to get to any settings relating to BT radio.
In properties for BT in XP - & within Device Manager doesn't appear to be any settings for BT radio & Power mangement???
Bluetooth Device not working!
