I did a clean Windows XP Pro installation on a E1705 and for some reason the Bluetooth driver is not installing. I downloaded the Toshiba Bluetooth drivers/stack R115564.EXE, but I receive "USB Error: No DFU interface descriptor. The device may not support firmware upgrades" when the Toshiba Bluetooth stack installation begins.
Any suggestions?
Driver installaltion order was: 1. System Software, 2. Chipset Driver (both the Intel and Ricoh), 3. Video Driver, 4. Sound Driver, 5. NIC Driver, 6. Intel Wireless, 7. Modem Driver, 8. Bluetooth 9 Touch Pad, 10. Dell QuickSet application
Thanks!

Did you download BIOS yet?
One solution: If you run windows update, it should have a bluetooth driver that will automatically install.
i'll see if i can figure out what is going on with your toshiba stack. -
The system BIOS for the E1705 has not been updated by Dell. The Bluetooth BIOS Flash upgrade is include the downloaded EXE.
I (unfortunately) have been several Windows XP clean installs on this system (all related to restore MediaDirect functionality), and the BlueTooth installation worked fine, until this last time.

Is device manager showing any devices without a driver?
-
As the Bluetooth firmware process aborts, I'm not sure the drivers are subsequently getting installed. <although the system either does not see the Bluetooth functionality or it thinks it has drivers as there appear to be no device manager problems.>.
What should I look for on the E1705 to confirm Bluetooth is functional? <I have no external bluetooth devices at the moment> -
When you right click on it in the device manager does it give you an option to "update driver". If so, put in your dell driver CD's and have it search the CD's for the proper driver. Also make sure windows is properly updated, and all the latest drivers and service packs are installed.

Mine shows up in different places in the device manager. If it is installed correctly, it could be in a few locations depending on what stack you have. It could have it's own category, could be under networking, or might be like mine and is under USB devices. You should see something with BT in the name
Right now, I'm guessing that it is showing up as a USB device - no root, usb controller or anything like that. Just plain USB device.
I would disconnect your actual BT radio, and reconnect it. If it is in the same place as 9300, then it is in a tiny little slot on the outside edge beside the battery. You'll see one little screw.
Sad part is that I had this error and I can't remember how I fixed it. I remember uninstall and installing Toshiba's stack several times. Then I think i updated XP, and got the XP drivers installed. After that I was able to reinstall Toshiba's stack.
