So i turned on my BRAND NEW Dell XPS M1530 just now and i got this blue screen and then it went to start up repair and ask me to restore, so i clicked restore and everything worked..
But why did the blue screen happen? I didn't do ANYTHING different, it was a proper shut down before this start up so i really really dont know why it did it..
Any help would be APPRECIATED!

From my experience, hardware issues. Bad RAM, something wrong with the HDD, CPU, motherboard. I don't know, but all I know is that I had random bluescreens and it turned out to be all kindsa hardware issues.
Other than that, I've NEVER had a bluescreen in vista.
Again, I'm not sure at all, just a complete guess. If it IS a hardware issue, it will probably happen again, and will require repair. Maybe it was just a weird bug lol. Like I said, just a thought... -
Could be just software/drivers set up poorly (or incomplete), or maybe faulty RAM. You could run memtest (search "memtest" in Google) to see if the RAM checks out fine.
Otherwise I'd let it run for a few days to see if there's any problems before contacting Dell support, give it a good stress test with some memory intensive apps, and generally give it a good thrashing with games and see how it turns out! -
Sounds like a hard drive problem. Seems like something got corrupted on the drive that prompted it to ask for a reinstall. Install some hard drive analysis tools and check the S.M.A.R.T. details. An alternative is to check the Event Viewer in the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer>System.

I dont understand why but my hard drive is totally fragmented, and it suggest me to defragment it.. So im running it and it is taking FORVER...
I turned off Hard drive indexing but would that matter? -

Hi.
re-install your video driver, nvidia drivers cause a lot of problems according to microsoft.
I have had BSOD on boot it was fixed as i described above.

Thanks for the advice! i will try that.. Im about to update my driver to 174.74 and start OC'ing too lol..

If its the first time youve turned it on or havent made any major changes to the system then the BSOD might be a sign of defective hardware
-
Happened to me too, worked after restart. I sure hope my replacement will have none of this junk.
-
My new M1530 did the same thing, after a reboot it was fine and I have never got another BSOD since.
-
I've gotten about 5 BSODs so far. Oftentimes related to some gaming with no overclocks. One time while using Internet Explorer. Kinda strange...

Remember guys, they use images. The image on your computer is bit for bit identical to the image that was put on his computer. Sure it could have been a faulty image, but then EVERYONE would get a BSOD. If you get another, return it for a new one.
-
you can do following to help recreate bsod although sometimes it results only in icons missing from desktop or control panel.
on admin accout schedule chkdsk c: on next reboot
do not reboot, work as normally on other standard user account
put laptop few times to hybrid sleep not hibernate until bsod or other strange things start to happen -
Try to use the system as is for a little while to confirm it's stable. -
As others have mentionned, this is most often caused by a faulty driver. Very often relates to Video or Sound drivers. Are you running stock Dell drivers, or have you made some changes? -
Well I was playing call of duty 4 before I shut off my computer, and then the blue screen.. I dont know.. I just hope it doesnt happen again..
Blue screen... crap...
