What do you mean by "fix" a drive? Install one?

If there is an external HD-DVD drive, you could run that for sure. I think only the larger XPS systems have internal Blu-Ray possibilities. Of course, an external Blu-Ray drive could be run in the same way an HD-DVD drive would.

I am new to the laptop thing but could I change my internal dvd drive for a blu-ray drive later on? I have m1710 1 month old. I have seen this is an option when ordering but I noticed it too late.

Don't most laptops just use standard slim drives and easy to swap out? The only problem that seems to pop up is that the faceplate of a new drive doesn't always match the surrounding plastic in size or shape.

most laptops use the standard slimline drives correct but I have actually had one guy tell me that his M1210 had issues fitting a standard drive. I'm going to do some research on this myself.

If an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive is a customization oprion for you system than yes you can get one even if your system was purchased before that became available. However you'd probably have to flash the BIOS to an updated rsion that supprted the new hardware.
