I'm getting the M1530 and I'm wondering, is the $500 Blu-ray worth it for only a 15" screen? Is the quality that much better or something? I've never seen a Blu-ray before, so please enlighten me...

    Jmoore,

Only you can answer that question. Can you afford it? Do you need it? If so go for it. Personally I do not believe that the resolution blue ray has to offer will make that much of a difference on a screen that size.

I have a 60 inch sony TV that is HD and blue ray makes a big difference over the standard def version of a DVD. That has to do more with distance between pixels etc... than anything.

When your talking about a 15 inch screen capable of those reolutions however, there distance is not so great to begin with even for standard def.

But again, that is just my opinion. Im sure someone else will come on here and tell you to them there is a night and day difference.

The vast majority of movie watchers won't notice the improvement on their laptop screen. If you're planning on using your laptop as a media drive hooked up to a larger HDTV via HDMI, then you would likely see tremendous difference. On the other hand, you could get the laptop with standard drive, buy a PS3 (or a dedicated Sony or Samsung Bluray player) and still have $100 left over to get 2 games or 3-4 Blu-ray movies and have spent exactly that amount of cash.

Some Bluray discs also have considerable additional content - if you're the person that likes probing all the features of your movies you might find a lot to enjoy in the extra material found in the Bluray presentation. But that just tells you you'd want Bluray in some form - not that it makes sense to get it on your computer.

HEres a thought. If you really want blue ray, don't spend the money in the laptop, but use the money and go buy a PS3.
You get a great gaming machine, plus Blue ray capability for actually a cheaper price!

    Cheers,
    Teslas
