I would like a laptop with a BR-RE drive (writable) so I can burn 25 or 50 gb discs of backup data. But my understanding is that all the dell XPS systems only offer BD-ROM, meaning they cannot burn blu-ray discs. Am I correct that there is no BR burner available for Dells?

Oh, and strangely the M1530 configuration page isn't showing the blu-ray drive anymore right now even though it is mentioned in the Overview. Is there even any way to configure a M1530 with blu-ray right now?

I just ordered my dell 1530. When i talked to the CSR she said it was a BR reader and burner. Also if you go to the help part when you're looking at the optical drive section it mentions that its a burner.

yes there is a blu-ray option ($500) and i just ordered the notebook today with it. but be advised (and i don't know why Dell did this...seems kind of shady) that the highest resolution screen at 1680x1050 still does not support the 1080p of Blu-ray!! only 720p (still HD) will be supported with the Blu-ray drive with the 1680x1050 resolution. pisses me off...i mean, why market the Blu-Ray drive when you can't take advantage od the full 1080p experience on your laptop??! you can however , use the HDMI input on the laptop to connect to to a 1080p flatpanel and enjoy the blu-ray graphics that way

I noticed the same with my XPS. When I got it there was only the CD-ROM drive available. I think the UK get the RM drive, whereas in the US the BD-RE is available as an option.
    Unfair huh!
