I recently bought a Studio 17 from Staples with the following configuration:

    Studio 1737
    T6400
    3 GB Ram
    320 GB HD
    Blu-ray drive
    Integrated X4500MHD graphics
    Back-lit keyboard
    standard (not LED) screen 1440x900

    Cost: $799

The computer is waiting for me to pick up today from the store. However my question is around the integrated graphics x4500MHD and its compatibility with the Blu-Ray drive. I attempted to configure this same system on Dell's website and in order to get the Blu-ray drive, Dell required either the upgrade to a 1066MHz processor or the upgrade to the ATI dedicated graphics card.

If this is the case, why would Staples sell one of these WITHOUT either of those upgrades? Am I setup for failure with this system? Does anyone have a similar setup with the 4500MHD graphics and Blu-ray?

    Hi dmanindfw,

I was wondering the same thing about my order from Staples today. Did you get your laptop and does it really have a Blu-ray in it? Does it work?

The 4500MHD is the Mobile High Definition variant of the Intel X4500 integrated graphics chipset, hence the MHD suffix. This means it can play HD video, such as Blu-Ray disks.

I'm not sure why the Dell site wants you to upgrade to a 1066MHz FSB processor if you keep the 4500MHD. Probably just a marketing gimmick. I'm sure Blu-Ray playback will be just fine with a T6400 and 4500MHD, though.
