I have been very stupid. I thought I would upgrade my Inspiron 1525 laptop and replace my 1.8ghz processor with a 2.4ghz. I installed the new proceesor, switched on and just got a bright blank screen. I switched off straight away but had to pull the power jack out of the machine before it would turn off. I replaced the 1.8ghz processor absolutely nothing happens when I try to switch on, it is completely dead. Could I have blown the motherboard? Any information would be gratefully received.

I have just taken out the battery and the computer boots into XP but sticks on the first black screen with the blue dots running along the bottom.

    Thanks in advance,

    Alan

What processor did you have and what processor did you try to install?

If you can still get into BIOS on the old CPU, you probably aren't hosed just quite yet. Try booting in safe mode, from a Knoppix disk, etc.
