Hey all, my dell xps 1330 just arrived... I've heard that Dell installs alot of bloat on their pc's. Anyone here that has purchased a dell xps know what types of things I should remove from my new laptop in order to allow it to run smoother?

just every thing that you're unlikely to use. This include allthe trail versions such as the antivirus and MS Office and MS Works...

I've never had a Dell but I have a Lenovo T60 and T61which also comes woth a variety of bloatware... I just make a clean install and then choose which programs I want on my PC. If you have the installation disc then I would make a clean install...

I'd just reformat your HHD and start with a clean sheet. Most manufacturers include the disks for their preinstalled hardware. So then you can pick and choose exactly what you want.

If you go to the control panel, their will be an add ore remove programs (in xp), or a program preferences (in vista), and in there you will be able to delete programs and such which you do not use.
I agree with crimson roses, cause the best way to speed up the machine is starting with a fresh installation of the operating system.

Just find a 64-bit Vista installation disk, and start over...
You may as well go 64-bit right now; that way, when you upgrade to 4gb or 8gb RAM eventually, there won't be any problem in using it all. -
I can't go 64-bit because of Gametap
Dell's one of the only two big companies I know of that include a clean OS disc with their systems, which is pretty cool (and for me a real selling point). (Gateway's the other...and of course Apple, but that's OS X.)
Bloat?
