    Hi,

Looking at ordering a Studio 1557 and I'm hoping someone can confirm that the standard 'chainlink black' finish is shiny piano black?

Also do people find it scratches very easily?

I actually saw one of these at a local computer store. The finish is a shiny black but it has these little circular grey chain designs in it. It is pretty subtle though.

I cannot comment on the scratching. I actually just got a xps 16 in the glossy black and put a skin on it immediately, I am trying not to find out the hard way about scratching. :)

I took a few pics. The second one looks really pronounced because I used camera flash to highlight the pattern. The other two are more natural; the pattern is very subtle.

I don't think it scratches easily, but it is pretty vulnerable to fingerprints (happy now jawedib? :p).

"vulnerable to fingerprints" should've been written in super-bold

Thank you all very much for the comments and Mastershroom for taking the time to take and post photos.

I saw an Inspiron 1555 this morning and that was very shiny piano black and was covered in fingerprints. I have a feeling this would drive me up the wall so I think I may have to spend the extra to get a finish that doesn't get covered in prints.

Do the skins stop the fingerprints? I presume we're talking about a clear stick on plastic like a screen protector?

The fingerprints are a by-product of having the super glossy finish on the lid which looks FANTASTIC... when its clean. Which is never. If you get a skin which is also glossy than you're just going to have a skin that's covered in finger prints.

I also thought that the fingerprints would drive me up the wall but they don't bother me. I have a micro-fibre cloth that I keep in my bag and maybe once a week I'll give the whole machine a once-over. The only thing that bothers me is those tiny little felt pads at the bottom of the screen bezel and how dirty they get.. grrr...

And I wouldn't worry about scratches, I can't seem to find any at all on my lid.

Nice to hear of someone who likes the black chainlink finish.

I'd like to think the fingerprints wouldn't bother me but I'm just not sure my OCD like nature would allow it :D

Keep a soft cloth handy, a month's worth of fingerprints takes a minute or two to polish off.

    It's a nice finish.
When I ordered mine, I asked for a "Black" studio 1555, and was a little surprised to see the finish at first (thins works a bit, eh... different, here in Israel).
But I grew into it, and actually prefer it over a black matte finish. It's a fingerprint magnet for sure, but's really nice.

I didn't like the high-gloss finish at first, preferring a microsatin one, but none of the microsatin finishes are available in black.

However, I'm beginning to come round to it now.

Still concerned about scratched though. Does anybody know where I can purchase a clear skin or lid protector in the UK???

    Thanks

    :D

Almost annoying unavoidable, looks awesome clean though..............

BTW I used liquid car wax on the lid and it help, but be careful with this.

All colours besides black come in the matte microsatin finish.

OK but her palmrest is glossy....... like mine Ugh!

it gets dirty easy, on the bright side it should not wear like the silver dull finishes of the past, they tended to have horrible wearing of the finish.
