I totally agree. And from what I've been reading many people are expacting current Yonah processor to drop in result of Merom's release. But it doesn't look like it's going to happen. :(
The bright side of the news is "On the other hand, Sources form NB market indicate that there are some special edition of Core Duo processor to the OEM market, where the price is set lower than the standard ones." This is generally a good news who are looking in to upgrade their processor for cheaper price. I look forward to see cheaper OEM version at newegg once it comes out.

Why wouldn't Yonah drop in price? That makes no sense.
Currently, Yonah is their mobile flagship, Merom is going to take over that. Why would sell an inferior processor at the same price as a superior one...who would buy it?
There may not be a bug price drop right away while the big companies use up their supply of Yonahs that they bought at the original prices, but it would make no sense to continue to sell Yonahs at Merom prices for an extended period of time.

Yonah will have a price cut, but it will be a while. I think Intel will down the price of Yonah, but only when Merom is in abundance on the market. This could take some time, even up through till the end of September, or October.

I have no problem waiting for Merom, especially if the price is going to be the same as the Yonah

Actually for those who wanna upgrade , don't need to rush at all because 64bit software is not yet available so can wait a year or two and by then the price would be much lower ;)

Yes, but in less than a year, Intel will bring out there next mobile processor, based on Merom, and a new chipset.

Those of you who already have the Yonah will notice no difference in performance between it and the Merom, unless you do heavy number crunching and/or have use for 64-bit applications - 99.9% of people don't even have a 64-bit OS, let alone apps for it. The performance boost even then will be, for the most part, minor.

Right on Chaz. Other than bragging rights, Merom won't really allow you to do anything any better than Yonah. 64-bit applications are still WAY off, and it'll probably be time to buy a new computer then anyway. And seriously, unless you're into some heavy applications, Yonah will be more than enough.

Keep in mind, this is a forum, essentially based on BBSes which have been around for 25+ years. Just 'cause it's better doesn't mean it's necessary :)

Yes, I agree. These days allmost all the processors that are being sold, are mosre than fast enough for the avarage user. Obviously, there are some users that need to brute power of more high end processors, but for the majority of users, a Core Duo is more than enough.
