Having been unsuccessful decoding my monitor plug and play hardwareID (CMO1418), and finding the part number in the packing slip equally useless (PG358), I chatted will dell support for help.

First person said it is not possible to know that information. I did a second chat with a different person and worded the question slightly differently, and was told OPTOELECTRONICS. Not like I ever heard of them.

After this I realized I could already see this information on the dell website.

From support.dell.com, click technical support and click system configuration on the sidebar menu. There it was "LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 14.1WXGA+, GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, CHI MEI OPTOELECTRONICS"

It must be some dell office joke to remind you of the GLARE in the system specs LOL.

Since this requires no download or navigation of obscure parts of windows and googling part numbers, I figured this is the best way to see your lcd manufacturer, although I have not found it mentioned in this forum. All you need is your service tag.

Now what the hell is CHI MEI OPTOELECTRONICS...

Just to note that this works for new, but not necessarily refurbished. Mine reported my screen as a Sharp, when actually I had a Samsung. I guess when they swap parts on the refurbisheds the info isn't always updated.

Chi Mei is a screen manufacturer in China. They also make LCd screen for cheap price. They have a decent deal on 19" wide screen LCD for about 180$ or so. I have one of those screen. It's not bad.

Sometimes you might not get the screen as it says on the support.dell.com because your system might have been through repair or upgrade ( if you bought a refurbish of course). IF it's new system so everything must be right on the Specs list.

Also, this method does not work in Europe (no such info on the web or in the package slip)
