I'm looking to pick up a laptop this week once I sell my desktop gaming rig. I love the look of the 1710 and there are a few on Dell outlet for around 12-1300 refurbs, that's with 2.2 or a 2.0 processor and 2gig of ram and the 512 video card.
Will a 1530 with 2.4 and 3-4 gig of ram, and the 256 GT card, outperform the 1710 for average gaming? ( Not Crysis, but mostly MMORG use )
I can get a brand new XPS with the coupons for a little over 1100 with those specs.
I just wish they looked as nice as the 1710!
-
get the 1530. the 1710 is outdated
-
You can get an M1530 with a better processor (Penryn), but isn't the 7950GTX video card in the M1710 faster?
-
M1710 is better in terms of gaming. It's got better graphics card...CPU will never be a bottleneck here. The only disadvantage of it is that it won't be able to play HD content.
-
So the 1530 would be the better deal.. and it's 200 cheaper, with the standard Dell warranty, not the refurb.
That's what I'm leanin towards.. -
-
You can't get a new XPS for that price with those specs.
-
what he means that the 1710 doesn't have hdmi -
-
hm...weird. I thought that only NVidia series 8xxx + can play HD video. Is that not so?
-
Well, I have a ps3 if I want any kind of HD/BluRay playback..
Second note, how bad is Scratch and Dent on the dell outlet? There are a few on there.
And would the extra bought warranty cover any major blemishes? -
When my m1710 came from scratch and dent outlet it was in horrible condition, ****load of scratches and blemishes.
I called them up and they replaced all the plastic within the next week. Now it looks like new -
M1530 for gaming and everyday use imo. For me, the M1530 has to be the notebook that preferrably has as much, if not more than, the power of a decent desktop since my notebook is all i will have in college. M1530 is perfect for on the go, gaming pleasures, and is very very powerful.
M1710 I believe is too much and the graphics card is great, though the 8600GT is more than enough for my purposes. the 8700GT in the 1710 is not really worth it for me since it drains more battery. It is also too heavy and I have no need for that 17 inch screen. Sure WUXGA is nice, but WSXGA+ is perfect for 15.4 imo. Plus it would be a pain to lug around. -
1710 uses a 7950GTX, not an 8700GT. Much faster card. If you're a serious gamer and it's your only rig, get the 1710. Otherwise 1530 FTW!
-
-
Keep in mind that the 8700GT and 7950GTX, all consume higher power and have more weight. Sticking with the M1530 gives you a 8600GT, but it is still a very decent card that gives you satisfying graphics without sacrificing weight and consumes less power as well so better for mobility and laptopping.

-
Actually 8700GT can be overclocked higher than a 8600GT can be overclocked. The reason why 8700GTs are being used in 17 inch laptops is because they consume 15% more battery life than the 8600GT.
-
The m1530 can handle most if not all MMO's fine.
Better for gaming/everday use. 1530 or 1710?
