I have been reading all the comments and most of the tech stuff is over my head, but you all seriously know what you are talking about. Do you have a suggestions for a laptop for someone who doesn't game, but wants to use as a desktop replacement especially for photo editing. I don't have to lug the thing around. Is the larger 17 inch screen really better?...Michelle...

A 17" is a must if you're doing photo editing. Be sure to get one with 1080p resolution-it will make a world of a difference when editing, you will have plenty of space to work with.

For photo editing (I'm going to assume photoshop or similiar) you will want a 17" notebook with at least 4gb of ram and dual hard drives. The dual hard drives allows you to have your operating system on drive #1 and your scratch disks on drive #2; this will help speed things up.

The $140 I spent adding a second 500gb drive to my studio 17 was well worth it :)

I won't say it's a must to get a 17. Mainly get a good processor and lots of memory. I've done a fair amount of basic editting on 13s...

But I guess if you never move the sucker, then a 17 will work.

But ever person who I know that has a 17 as their primary computer wishes they got a 15....

I'd probably get the Studio 16 and get a decent screen.
