I've has my 1720 for a couple of weeks now and the time has come to clean the screen after tiny sticky finger found it .....

My old 8600 had a matt screen. I found the best way to clean that was with a damp cloth with just plain water. It came up like new with not a single mark.

I've just tried the same with the glossy True Life and it's smeared. It is clean but I would like it factory fresh.

How do you clean yours ?

With an antistatic cloth, sometimes with a little water added.

I got a pro cloth and cleaner, do not mess around, trust me, I took the easy route once and it was not fun.

Just pay 5.00 and buy a lcd cleaner and cloth from the shop.

Spray a bit on the cloth and go over the screen a few times very light and it cleans up better than anything.

Just used mine, it will last months and months and it cost 4.99

The commercial LCD cleaner solutions are just rubbing alcohol diluted with distilled watter. You can make your own, I do it all the time. Just make sure to use a microfiber cloth, nothing with any texture on it to scratch the screen. And never never never use paper towels.

EDIT: I use about 60% water 40% alcohol mix.

Lukewarm water and a soft cloth always does the trick and it's free. :)

Do not use water, trust me, I have been cleaning my plasma for ages now, and the first time I used water, what a nightmare, it was so hard to get rid of the streaks and make it perfect.

Use a shamy-microfibre cloth, and a diluted rubbing alc. spray, they are so so cheap, they work.

    And worth every penny.

Having seen a TrueLife screen that was permanently fogged by screen cleaning solutions, I'd be hesitant to use any kind of solvent on a laptop screen. If you're getting streaks, that means you've still got some dirt or grease on the screen, and a fresh cleaning cloth would probably help.

I used crap water on my plasma, and it was bad.

Then When I got my xps about a week ago i cleaned it today with the stuff my girlfriend bought me and no more streaks, a few wipes on spotless.

But hey each to there own.

water or solvent. I guess its like Mac and PC

I've used a diluted isopropyl(AKA rubbing) alcohol mix on every kind of screen you can imagine and never had it leave any kind of permanent mark. It's stuff like windex that as amonia that you have to look out for as it will actually corrode plastics and is only meant for glass.

Lol, to be honest even though I have a matte screen I just use a paper towel and water. Good as new!

I use Staples branded LCD cleaner and a microfiber cloth. As the others have mentioned, it appears to be basically an alcohol/water mix but I think it's got a bit of mild cleaner in it too (I can smell it a bit). It was 5 bucks and I've been using the same bottle for about 2.5 yrs now, LOL...well worth it IMHO.

    I agree.

I got a cloth a keypad cleaner brush, and spray and a microfibre cloth, it will all last years, and for a fiver, who can complain... Dont be cheap, what is a fiver against a 800.00 + laptop.

Toilet paper and water here... no scratches yet despite living in a very dusty city (It's the loess).
My eyeglasses are not actually glass and they are terrible scratched from similar treatment.
