Just got my new D630 and I'm wondering what the best power settings would be for longevity of battery/hardware. This may be a silly question, but just want to treat this thing right .
The knowledge I have is from:
http://www.terranovum.com/projects/energystar/standby_v_hiber.html
The options I can change are (there is a set of settings for when it's plugged in and one for when it's running on batteries):
-Turn off monitor after X mins -- This seems unimportant, so I figured I'd leave it on 5 mins for both, or even less.
-Turn off hard disks after X mins -- Not sure if turning hard disks on/off frequently effects their longevity in any way.
-System standby after X mins -- What's the difference between this and turn off hard disks?
-System hibernates after X mins -- Pretty extreme, 2 hours seems fine.
Also, how often should I shut my computer down?

That's a pretty good notebook, business class built to last notebook. Either way, no matter what option you choose, it wouldn't hurt the HDD, screen, etc. So go with what ever easy for you, don't worry about hurting your machine.
Best power settings for laptop?
