If I use my laptop mostly at home, what would be the best/wiser power scheme? I'm guessing Home/office desk over the rest? Will probably be leaving laptop on for a couple of days out of the week. I've been seeing on other threads that that's normal. Any suggestions are appreciated. BTW, laptop is a e1505 with an 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery.

it depends on what you want to do

do you want it on the entire time? the LCD and/or HD to turn off after x mins?

can't answer your question until your goals are known.

I set my dell at 2 brightness, screensaver at 2min, monitor off at 5mins, standby at 15mins, hibernate at 30mins, and HD off 30mins.....on battery setting. I find the lowest setting is too quick for casual web browsing or doing Hmwk/Emails.

Not sure if I want it on all the time. I'd like to extend the life of my battery. When a laptop goes into hibernation is that the same as powering down? Right now I'm just using my laptop for email and some light surfing. 1st night with it. I'll be increasing my use eventually to word and powerpoint use for work. Does anybody set the their power schemes in stand by or hibernate to "never"?

that's what I do with my 2 yr old compaq lappy, but battery life/use isn't a big concern with it because it can't hold power unless it's always plugged. Thus it's always plugged. I used to always used to shut it down and start it up. Maybe that's why the battery stopped holding power. :(

I'm trying to figure out what to do with the new e1505.
btw, there's an intereting thread on hibernate vs standby here. See link below.
