Best nVidia GPU drivers for the Windows 7 beta

I'm using the Windows 7 beta on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with the 8600M GT GPU. I've installed the nVidia drivers from Windows update. However, I'm getting choppy aero performance, especially when closing windows. I'm considering several alternatives:

1) The Vista drivers from the Dell website (175.97).
2) The latest Vista nVidia desktop drivers (181.22 WQHL) from the nVidia website, with the modded INF from www.laptopvideo2go.com, if required (is it required?).
3) The latest Vista nVidia mobile drivers (179.28 beta) from the nVidia website.

I'm not playing any games right now, so I just need a driver that gives me good aero performance.

Which one do you suggest? Are any of you using the Windows 7 beta on Dell laptops with nVidia mobile GPUs and experiencing similar issues? Also in general, what's the difference between:

1) An nVidia driver from Dell and one from nVidia on a laptop in terms of functionality and performance?
2) An nVidia laptop driver and a nVidia desktop driver (with modded INF) on a laptop in terms of functionality and performance?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

Erm... no replies? I know that Windows 7 is beta, and Microsoft-beta and not Google-beta, so problems are to be expected. But still, it would be nice if others using Win7 could give me a pointer.

 

I've been using 181.20 Dox modified from laptopvideo2go.com - I installed them before I even knew Windows Update had some. They've given me a blue screen of death, so I can't really recommend them, but they haven't been so bad that I've switched, either. They're quite good on XP.

Generally speaking, a Dell driver will work best if they're special video functions, and an nVIDIA laptop 2nd best - it'll still be quite good with power saving and stuff like that. NVIDIA desktop won't be specialized to powersaving or any specific Dell features. But really, they all tend to work pretty well in practice - I haven't noticed a practical difference using desktop drivers, in either functionality or battery performance. Now, the nVIDIA ones do tend to be more up-to-date than Dell ones, so they'll have better graphics performance.

181.20 doesn't give me any performance issues other than that one BSOD - other than that, things have ran just jolly. Sorry I can't really point you to a great one, though - while I change drivers more often than most people, I do like to actually, y'know, play games and use the drivers for something!

 

I said that I'm not playing games at present; I never said that I don't play games ! Have you ever heard of a non-gamer creating such a fuss over drivers?

Thanks for the reply, but what do you mean by 'special video functions'? I watch HD videos, so the PureVideo HD feature is crucial to me. Will getting a non-Dell driver compromise that? Come to think of it, I have been having trouble with hardware accelerating HD videos.

Also, by performance, I mean gaming-performance, not battery-performance (which I don't care about; my battery is dying anyway).
