I'm sorry if this has been covered a million times, but nothin I searched for was very informative.

I've had my Inspiron 1721 for about 2 months now, and I've had all I can stand of Vista. I hate it. It's Windows ME all over again.

I'm ready to reformat and go back to XP Pro, but I'm having trouble finding a guide to the best way to do it, what drivers need to be tracked down and installed for components, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction of this information? I'd greatly appreciate it.

All you do is get an XP cd, boot up from it, format your hard drive, wait while it installs itself, then you go to the Dell downloads website, enter your system # or serial #, and then you are given a list of drivers that you need. Download and install all of them.

No, pretty much any major manufacturer has that on their site. Been around for a while.

I'm thinking of doing the same when I get my Vostro 1700.
If the computer is just for personal use, which version of XP is best to go with?

Ive just rang dell and asked for an XP downgrade disc. They said fine and there seding me all the drivers with it.

Just be polite and state that a) its going to be cheaper for you (dell) to give me the disc then me send you my entire system back b) say microsoft have said that people have the right to ask for a downgrade
