I have a brand new Studio 14z - 1440 laptop (with 720p display) that I want to use almost exclusively for movie watching while traveling. I would like to (eventually) rip my small DVD collection onto a large external hard drive, then copy the movies I'm interested in watching onto the laptop's hard drive or a USB flash drive for playback.

(I am assuming that it would use less precious battery power to store the movies I want to watch onto a flash drive instead of the laptop's motor-driven internal hard drive.)

In order to get the absolute best quality video playback, what format/settings would I use in Handbrake to rip my DVDs to, both for watching on the laptop's display and for watching on an 720p external monitor?

    All suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you want the absolute best quality just rip them without recompressing.
