I'm looking to sell my Sony CS series due to fan issues that cant be remedied after 3 tries. I've had good experiences with dells but have not owned a dell laptop recently.

What is a good, solid model? How are the inspiron 13's? what about the studio 15's? I need something with at least a C2D and able to get 802.11N wireless.

The Studio 15s are a great choice. I really like mine.

I second the Studio purchase. Otherwise, I would go for an XPS at this point. However, the hardware is starting to get somewhat dated for the price. New models will eventually come out. Steer clear of Nvidia GPUs. Some Dell's have unique hardware problems - however aside from the Nvidia defect, I wouldn't consider any a deal breaker so much as a disappointment.

    Best under a grand?

I'd go for the XPS m1330. You can get them pretty loaded, pretty cheap, these days.

If you're willing to go the Outlet route, the Dell Latitude E6400 and E6500 are my recommendation. With a 3-year standard warranty, magnesium alloy construction and, quite possibly, the best keyboard I've ever typed on, they're a steal, starting under $700. There are dozens of Previously Ordered New models available from the Outlet also. Starting at $729, these are NEW systems for hundreds off. Whether Refurbished or Previously Ordered New, all E6400/E6500 systems from the Outlet have a 3-year warranty!- http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=28&l=en&s=dfb
