    Hello,
last weekend i accidently throw a bottle of becks on my dell latitude notebook d620 :(
Than the notebook blinked wild and went off, and i was not able to turn it on again. Later i read to turn it off and flip it arround - remove the battery, what i did than the next day. They next day and now it is possible to start the notebook, but only a few keys working.

I chatted with Dell support and i got told only the check and transportation of the notebook costs 160€ alone.

So here im searching for a way to clean the keys myself and or buy a usb keyboard.

    My question are now:

Where can i find infos about how to open the notebook and clean the keys (or maybe i clean the keys without opening it).

Thank you for your help :)

    Regards,
    Laura

How did you "accidently" throw a bottle of beer on your dell... :p

Try just googling it. You might want to consider some sort of professional keyboard cleaning service. Or even a new laptop...

You will need to make sure to get the computer COMPLETELY clean and free of residue. The sugar in the beer will destroy electronics over time.

Also, good call on the Beck's ;)

eBay usually has keyboards for laptops for cheap, check there.

Hi, the notebook is starting up so why buy a new one ... i will have a look for cleaning services, thx.

Actualy i thought of a open up the notebook-myself-clean-keys solution, because i have nothign to loose ... or i just get a usb keyboard, but than i still need to get rid of the rest of beer liquid.

It happend while the notebook was on the floor, and i had a friend here and i drunk a beer ... than suddently i throw the bottle over .... direct on the notebook .... ****ty!!!!!! I love this notebook, so this is really really ....bad for me now.

If keyboard has really gotten bad, you may want to consider just buying a new keyboard for D620 from Dell or a spare laptop parts store. I don't think they cost that much.

My suggestion: remove the keyboard, soak the keyboard in beer, and then soak and rinse with distilled water. Use compressed air to get rid of as much of the water as possible, and then let dry for a few days. Reinstall the keyboard and hope for the best.

I'm pretty sure the keyboards in the Latitudes can tolerate water, as in, they have no parts that would be permanently damaged because of water exposure. The fact it boots up tells me that theres no motherboard damage.

Good luck..and maybe consider CompleteCare next time ;).

What a waste of beer, spilling onto a Dell and such.

In the first line, I think pitz meant to say "soak the keyboard in water", not in beer.

No, he probably means beer. Like solutions dissolve like solutions. Soaking in beer will help break up residual Becks, then, the water rinse will completely clean the keyboard. :p

No, I meant exactly what I said; soak the keyboard in beer.

Some drinks, colas in particular, are best dissolved by using cola itself as the solvent, and then removing the solvent with distilled water. Beer is more than likely the best solvent in the removal of beer, whereas just water might not do a very good job, especially in the nooks and crannies where minimal agitation of the solvent occurs.
