I just got back from being out of town and fired up my 1705. The speakers, not the pc speaker, if there is one, but the actual speakers on the front of the laptop, plus the external ones I have hooked up, are beeping about once every three seconds, just a low pitch beep, like if you have a stuck key. I can not figure out what it is. I did a system restore to a day before I left, monday, and it didnt fix it. I searched for beeping and my problem does not sound like any problem with beeping that I found on here. Every time it beeps, the cursor blinks to an hour glass and then back to the cursor. Also, the other problem, or they may be related. All of my processes are taking up around 3x the memory that they normally would. A process that normally took around 6 meg, now takes 18-20 for every process. normally 20 now taking up to 60. I have done a spyware scan and am about to start a virus scan before I format and reinstall. If anybody has any ideas I am open to anything.

I have noticed that beeping occurs when Windows cannot find a sound card driver, and so a default (historically known on desktops as a PC speaker beep) noise is produced for any action needing sound effects.

View your Device Manager and see if Windows has a yellow question mark near any Sound device. If so, uninstall the driver, and reload it.
