Does anyone here had luck getting a better price by leaving out components like hard drive, RAM, OS, etc.?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
In many, if not most cases, it will be cheaper to upgrade components on your own, but Dell does not allow you to purchase a system without a CPU, memory, HDD, etc. Also, some upgrades may void your warranty. There ARE machines that Dell sells without an OS or with Ubuntu (maybe not anymore?), but the selection is limited and I don't think the savings are all that amazing.

The savings would be amazing as I already have an OS, RAM, a fast hard disk. Well, looks like I have to do it the eBay-way then.

Make sure what you already have is compatible with the new notebook. What is the notebook and price you are looking for ?
Beating down the price by leaving out components?
