I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. The 6-cell battery that came with it stopped holding its charge, so I bought a new 9-cell battery. Now that one won't hold a charge. I figured it must be the cord, so I bought a new one. It still won't hold a charge. When I run my mouse over the battery icon, it says XX% (currently 37%) available (plugged in, not charging). I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but not enough to figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help me trouble shoot?
Thanks

What operating system are you running on it?
-
Vista Home Premium

Hit FN+F2 and then see if the charging status changes...

Tried it. The status did not change.

Did you buy a Dell or aftermarket AC adapter? Some aftermarket don't charge correctly.
-
Aftermarket. But the original one won't charge either.

When you boot into the BIOS with either AC adaptor does the system indicate an unknown adaptor or no adaptor at all ?
or does it properly identify the AC adaptor -
My frnd had the same problem in his 1525.
Fortunately he was in warranty period and dell provided him with a new charger and its all working fine now.
U should call dell and ask for a replacement or u should buy a new one from them.
Don't use chargers which r not meant for ur system as it may damage something.
If u don't think that this will solve the problem then find anyone with a 1525 and try to charge the batteries with his charger.I'm 110% sure it will solve the case. -
Get into the BIOS and check the Battery Status. Does it Recognise the AC Adapter? It should say something like "AC Adapter Type: 65W". If it does, does it recognise the battery (If it does, it'll say "Charging")? Most likely, you have a bad aftermarket battery. Dell's are extremely finicky about batteries/ac adapters.
Battery won't charge
