I got a new battery for my Inspiron E1505, but it seems to "freeze" when charging. For example when I was charging it for the first time, it only got to about 64% when the animation for "charging battery" stops moving. When the cursor is put over the charging icon, it still says "plugged in, charging", but it will stay at 64% and the icon is not animated to show the battery is charging.

I used the battery down and charge it again and now its the same thing at 58% with the animation stopped, but still saying the battery is charging. Any advice to help? Thank you in advance!

Take it out and press the little button on it. The leds will tell you its true charge level.

    EDIT: my 200th post!

i've done that, and it does not show full charge, just slightly over 50% as indicated by the icon. Any other suggestions? Thank you very much.

Does it charge if the laptop's off?
Do you have a friend/relative from whom you can borrow an AC adapter and a battery - to see whether it's your laptop (least likely), battery or AC adapter that's at fault.

Just read that - does your old one still work?
If it does then just contact Dell and tell them the new one's faulty.

my old battery does the same thing...charge for like a minute and the animation stops, but icon still says plugged in, charging. I can still run the laptop without a battery and just on the AC adapter. Does this mean the new batter yis fine and its something with the laptop itself? thank you again for your suggestions and help.

I'd just contact Dell, try the online chat.

I have the same problem with my Asus U3 - Vista. If I am running on battery and then plug in the charger, I get the animation for a few seconds and it stops. So say I'm at 43%, if I scroll over it will say 43% and charging, but 10 mins later it says the same thing - so clearly it's NOT charging. If I take the battery out and and put it back in, I get the animation again for a few seconds, 43% and charging, and if I check again in 10 mins, it might be 55% and charging. So it obviously doesn't need the animation to charge, but sometimes the battery seems to need a "reset". Do you think this is a faulty battery?
