The I6000 manual says that the battery should be attached to the laptop all the time. I don't understand the reason behind this. Is it OK to remove the battery when you use the DC power since the life for a laptop battery only lasts about 500 charging cycles. If you use the DC power, the battery is always in charging condition if the battery capacity is not full. I think the battery is not 100% full most of time. So I think it should make the battery life longer if you don't charge so often. Am I right? What do you usually do with your battery?

I think Dell suggests that you always leave your battery in just in case you accidentally unplug it. I leave my battery in all the time, and I know I'm wearing it down quickly considering I've only had it for a couple of months.
Here is a link that discusses how to keep your battery in the best of shape. http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3462
Hope this helps,

Thank you very much for your comments and information. After viewing the information provided in that thread, I now consider to leave the battery in my laptop all time.
